Therapeutic Modalities
An Integrative, Person-Centred Approach
Thunder Cove Wellness draws from a range of evidence-based approaches to create a counselling experience that’s responsive and deeply personalized.
Safe and Sound Protocol
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a gentle, non-invasive therapeutic listening program designed to help regulate your nervous system and create a greater sense of safety and calm in your body. Originally developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, the SSP is rooted in Polyvagal Theory, which emphasizes the role of the vagus nerve in emotional regulation, social connection, and healing from trauma.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, SSP doesn’t rely on words. Instead, it uses specially filtered music to support your body in shifting out of a state of chronic stress or hypervigilance, and into a more grounded, connected state. This makes it especially helpful for individuals who may feel overwhelmed by verbal processing, or who have experienced trauma, anxiety, neurodivergence, or sensory sensitivities.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
ACT helps you connect with your core values and use them to guide meaningful change. Through mindfulness and acceptance, it supports you in managing difficult emotions and building a life aligned with what matters most.
Somatic Practices
Mind-body connection is at the heart of somatic therapy. We explore how emotions are stored in your body and work on techniques like grounding, breathing, and movement to release tension.
Emotion Focused Therapy
EFT helps you process and navigate complex emotions in a supportive way. This approach emphasizes understanding your emotional responses and learning how to manage them in more empowering ways.
Expressive Arts Therapy
Art can be a powerful tool for healing and self-expression. In these sessions, we use different forms of creative expression to explore your emotions and create a nurturing space for self-discovery
Feminist Informed Therapy
This approach recognizes and challenges systemic inequalities that may impact your life. Feminist therapy is about honouring your unique identity and creating a space where your experiences are celebrated.
Compassionate Inquiry:
This approach creates a gentle, empathetic space for you to explore the roots of your emotions and patterns. We’ll uncover deeper layers of understanding in a way that fosters healing and growth.
Each of these modalities allows us to tailor your therapy to your needs, helping you build resilience, self-awareness, and a deeper connection to yourself.
